I would also like to greet the delegation from my riding present in the gallery who have honoured me with their presence here today in Ottawa, and to express my thanks from the chair to my life companion and my children for being so understanding of the many hours I have been away from home during my 25 years of political life.

Je voudrais également mentionner les rapporteurs fictifs ainsi que les autres membres de la commission qui ont participé activement à ce travail, surtout ces derniers mois, afin de parvenir à ce résultat positif; je voudrais tout particulièrement exprimer ma gratitude à la délégation ayant participé aux négociations menées dans le cadre du trilogue informel pour les efforts accomplis de sorte que nous puissions débattre de ce sujet aujourd’hui et arriver mercredi prochain, au sein de cette Assemblée, à un accord qui nous permette de rédiger un texte définitif.
And I would also like to mention the shadow rapporteurs and the other members of the committee who have participated actively over recent months in particular in order to achieve this positive result; I would particularly like to express my gratitude for the efforts of the delegation which has been negotiating within an informal tripartite dialogue so that we could hold this discussion today and on Wednesday reach an agreement in this Parliament allowing us to achieve a definitive text.

Dans cette nouvelle phase qui s’ouvre - et ici, je voudrais saluer également M. Simpson, que j’aurais aimé pouvoir compter parmi nous et que j’espère voir ici plus tard -, je voudrais dès lors dire à la Commission qu’il est essential que le nouveau processus ait une justification authentique et acceptable et qu’il soit parfaitement crédible, parce qu’on nous assure que le service sera meilleur plus tard, mais ce qu’on voit aujourd’hui, c’est que ce qui nous est offert aujourd’hui, c’est une insécurité accrue en termes d’emploi, et un nombre plus important de points d’interrogation concernant le service.
In this new phase that is opening up – and at this point I would like to acknowledge Mr Simpson as well, whom I wish had also been present, and I hope that he is here later – I would therefore like to say to the Commission that it is essential that the new process have true and acceptable justification and that it be fully credible, because we are being told that the service will be better afterwards, but what we are seeing today is that what is being proposed to us is greater insecurity in terms of jobs, with a large number of question marks being placed over the service.

- (HU) Monsieur le Président, je voudrais saluer moi aussi les observateurs, en particulier parce qu’ils sont avec nous aujourd’hui grâce à l’insistance du groupe socialiste qui a voulu que, à la suite de la signature de l’accord d’adhésion le 25 avril, ils soient également autorisés à étudier le travail du Parlement, à côté de celui des autres institutions de l’Union européenne, afin de faciliter un processus d’adhésion en douceur.
– (HU) Mr President, I, too, would like to greet the observers, in particular because they are here with us today as a result of the insistence of the Socialist faction that following the signing of the Accession Agreement on 25 April, they should also be allowed to study the work of Parliament, alongside that of the other EU institutions, to facilitate a smooth accession process.
