A. whereas twelve cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed were first published in the newspaper Jyllands-Posten on 30 September 2005 in the context of a debate on self-censorship and freedom of speech, and some or all of them have subsequently been reprinted in 40 other countries, including an Egyptian newspaper as early as October 2005,

C. considérant que la crise qui a suivi la publication des caricatures du prophète Mahomet dans le journal danois Jyllands-Posten, puis dans divers journaux européens est très préoccupante en ce qui concerne tant le dialogue interculturel que le respect des religions et des croyances et la liberté d'expression,
C. whereas the crisis which followed the publication of the cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in the Danish newspaper Jyllandsposten and then in various European newspapers is of great concern as regards dialogue between cultures, respect for religions and beliefs and the freedom of expression,

11. souligne que des rédacteurs en chef, remplissant leur devoir d'information dans plusieurs journaux européens ont publié les caricatures pour témoigner de leur solidarité avec le Jyllands-Posten et défendre la liberté de la presse, mais regrette que d'autres l'aient fait pour inciter à la haine contre les immigrés, en particulier contre les musulmans;

Stresses that editors carrying out their duty of information in several European newspapers have printed the cartoons in solidarity with Jyllandsposten and in defence of the freedom of the press, but regrets, at the same time, that others have done so with the aim of provoking and inciting hatred against migrants and Muslims in particular;
