- (PT) Je soutiens la proposition de résolution mais rejette, à ce stade-ci, les amendements qui vont à l’encontre de l’esprit de la proposition, en particulier ceux proposés par M. van den Berg, Mme Kinnock, Mme Segelström, M. Andersson, Mme Westlund, Mme Hedh et Mme Hedkvist Petersen car sous prétexte, d’une part, d’aider les consommateurs européens et, d’autre part, d’aider les pays ACP et les pays moins développés, ils menacent les producteurs européens de betterave sucrière et de canne à sucre et, en particulier, les producteurs des régions ultrapériphériques de l’Union européenne, dans la mesure où ils ne tiennent pas suffisamment compte des conditions particulières de ces régions.
– (PT) I support the motion for a resolution, but at this stage I reject those amendments that run counter to the spirit of the motion, in particular those tabled by Mr van den Berg, Mrs Kinnock, Mrs Segelström, Mr Andersson, Mrs Westlund, Mrs Hedh, and Mrs Hedkvist Petersen, because on the pretext of on the one hand helping European consumers and on the other hand of helping the African, Caribbean and Pacific States and the least-developed countries, it poses a threat to EU sugar beet and sugar cane producers, and in particular, to producers in the European Union’s outermost regions, as it does not take the specific circumstances of those regions properly into consideration.

Dans ce contexte, je ne comprends d’ailleurs pas pourquoi le rapporteur et Mme Kinnock proposent de supprimer, dans l'amendement 1, la phrase "considérant que la période électorale représente une forme d’expression démocratique du pluralisme politique et qu’elle doit être organisée conformément aux normes internationales reconnues".
In fact, it is beyond me why, in Amendment No 1, the rapporteur and Mrs Kinnock propose to delete the phrase “whereas the election period is a democratic expression of political pluralism and must be organised in accordance with internationally recognised standards”.
