In fact, it is beyond me why, in Amendment No 1, the rapporteur and Mrs Kinnock propose to delete the phrase “whereas the election period is a democratic expression of political pluralism and must be organised in accordance with internationally recognised standards”.

- (EN) Madame la Présidente, je voudrais tout d’abord remercier M. Daul, M. Barón Crespo, M. Fazakas et Mme Morgantini pour leur implication dynamique dans ce dossier, et louer l’impressionnant travail accompli par les rapporteurs, M. Fruteau, M. Glattfelder, M. Wynn et Mme Kinnock.
Madam President, first of all, I would like to thank Mr Daul, Mr Barón Crespo, Mr Fazakas and Mrs Morgantini for their proactive involvement in this dossier, and to praise the impressive work accomplished by the rapporteurs, Mr Fruteau, Mr Glattfelder, Mr Wynn and Mrs Kinnock.
