On motion of Anita Neville, it was agreed, That pursuant to Standing Order 108(1) (a)(b), a Sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities be established, and that pursuant to 108(2) the Sub-Committee study issues regarding the future of children and youth in Canada; That the Sub-Committee be chaired by John Godfrey and composed of nine members or associate members of the Committee namely five government members and four members representing the opposition parties to be named after the usual consultations with the whips and filed with the Clerk; That the Sub-Committee report thereon its findings and recommendations to the Committee; That the Sub-Committee be empowered, except when the House otherwise orders, to send for persons, papers and records, to receive evidence, to sit only during a time when the Standing Committee is not sitting, unless agreed by the Chair of the Standing Committee, to print from day to day such papers as may be ordered by it and to authorize the Chair to hold meetings to receive evidence when a quorum is not present provided that at least 3 members are present including the opposition; That when the Chair of the Sub-Committee is unable to act in that capacity at or during a meeting of the Sub-Committee, he shall designate a member of the Sub-Committee to act as Chair at or during the said meeting; That substitution of members on the Sub-Committee be in accordance with Standing Order114(2)(b) and (c); That the Committee authorize the allocation of sufficient funds from its budget to the Sub-Committee for the payment of reasonable travelling and living expenses to witnesses appearing before the Sub-Committee; That the Sub-Committee be empowered to retain the services of research officers from the Library of Parliament and; That it also be empowered to retain the professional, clerical and stenographic help as may be required.

commends Croatia for fully cooperating with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY); is concerned, however, that, as shown by recent judicial decisions, the effective prosecution of war crimes might be undermined by hostility at local level, persisting bias amongst some of the judicial staff against non-Croatian nationals and insufficient protection of witnesses against intimidation; urges the Croatian Government to continue actively to encourage and support the prosecution of war crimes, regardless of the nationality of the perpetrators; is also concerned about certain initiatives taken by the Government, notably its offer to support the defence costs for army generals and its request to act as amicus curiae in cases pending before the ICTY;

3. estime que le respect des règles de protection des données personnelles et de la vie privée doit être garanti par des autorités nationales de contrôle et, au niveau de l'Union, par une autorité commune européenne, devant laquelle les citoyens auront un droit de recours, et par la Cour de justice des Communautés européennes; estime en outre qu'il doit lui-même être consulté, avec un pouvoir de décision, sur toute proposition relative à la protection de la vie privée dans l'Union européenne, ou ayant un impact sur celle-ci, telle que, entre autres, les accords internationaux conclus par ses organismes ou la recherche de solutions appropriées (adequacy findings);
3. Believes that respect for privacy and data protection rules should be guaranteed by national supervisory authorities, a common EU authority, to which citizens will have the right to appeal, and the Court of Justice; maintains that Parliament should also be consulted on, and have decision-making powers in respect of, all proposals concerning or having an impact on the protection of privacy within the EU, such as international agreements involving its bodies, adequacy findings and so on;

J’estime qu’il est extrêmement déplacé que certains représentants du gouvernement espagnol aient comparu comme témoins devant l’Assemblée nationale française mais n’aient pas assisté aux séances de ce Parlement.
I personally find it extremely inappropriate that some representatives of the Spanish Government appeared as witnesses in the French parliament, but are not attending the hearings in this Parliament.

Entre-temps, nous verrons si les libéraux adoptent des propositions des témoins qui auront comparu devant le comité, de l'opposition officielle et des autres partis de l'opposition.
In the meantime we will see if the Liberals adopt any of the suggestions from the witnesses appearing before the committee or from the official opposition and the other opposition parties.
