6. réaffirme que son engagement à demeurer un important donateur d'aide pour l'Autorité palestinienne et à prolonger sa contribution au développement économique et au processus démocratique palestiniens sera subordonné aux précisions qu'apportera le gouvernement palestinien quant à la condamnation de la violence et la reconnaissance d'Israël; réaffirme également sa détermination à œuvrer en faveur de la paix et à coopérer avec tout gouvernement disposé à travailler en usant de moyens pacifiques;
6. Reaffirms that its commitment to remain an important aid donor to the Palestinian National Authority and to continue assisting Palestinian economic development and Palestine’s democratic process will be pending on the government’s clarification on denouncing violence and recognising Israel; also reaffirms its determination to work for peace and to cooperate with any government which is ready to work by peaceful means;

Cette mission, qui s'inscrit dans le cadre du mandat donné à la présidence belge par le Conseil informel de Gand, sera l'occasion de rappeler encore une fois aux parties la position claire de l'Union européenne quant aux objectifs que doivent atteindre les négociations finales, à savoir, pour les Palestiniens, la constitution d'un État viable et démocratique ainsi que la fin de l'occupation de leur territoire, et pour les Israéliens, le droit de vivre en paix et en sécurité à l'intérieur de frontières internationalement reconnues.
This mission, which comes under the mandate the informal Council of Ghent entrusted to the Belgian Presidency, will offer an opportunity to remind the parties, once again, of the European Union's clear position on the goals the final negotiations must seek to achieve. These are, for the Palestinians, the constitution of a viable and democratic State and an end to the occupation of their territory; for the Israelis, the right to live in peace and security within internationally recognised borders.

La reprise du processus de paix, après le gouvernement Netanyahou, l'élection de Barak et le nouvel accord signé à Charm el-Cheikh constituent indubitablement un pas en avant par rapport aux brumes du passé, après l'assassinat du premier ministre Rabin, mais la voie est encore difficile avant de réaliser une paix stable et durable et avant que les Palestiniens puissent vivre, comme l'ont sanctionné les résolutions de l'ONU, dans un État palestinien qui, j'espère, sera démocratique et pourra coexister pacifiquement avec l'État d'Israël.
The revival of the peace process after the fall of Mr Netanyahu’s government, the election of Mr Barak and the new Accord signed in Sharm el-Sheikh undoubtedly mark a step forwards in respect to a dark past, after the assassination of Prime Minister Rabin. But there are still difficulties to overcome before stable and lasting peace can be achieved and before the Palestinians can live in a Palestinian State, as sanctioned in the UN Resolutions, that I hope will be democratic and will peacefully co-exist with the Israeli State.
