I understand it entirely, but we have a different tradition in Denmark, so I was there with my T-shirt, calling for a referendum, and I think all of us should call for a referendum.

Or, nous sommes confrontés ici à une sérieuse contradiction. À plusieurs occasions - dans mon allocution d’il y a un moment, mais aussi en d’autres temps - j’ai proposé la création de grands laboratoires; nous avons même inclus ce point dans la perspective financière; nous avons aussi parlé de la Fondation européenne de la science, afin de pouvoir coordonner la recherche de pointe, car à défaut, cette recherche ne donnera pas les résultats voulus.
On several occasions – in my speech a moment ago and at other times – I have proposed that major laboratories should be set up; we have even included this item in the financial perspective; we have also talked about the European Science Foundation to be able to coordinate cutting-edge research, for otherwise this research will not achieve the results we want.

J'ai donc suivi son conseil quand j'ai présenté mon allocution, mais tous mes collègues d'en face et de ce côté m'ont reproché mon ignorance ainsi que mon manque de culture et de respect pour la belle langue.
I therefore followed Senator Riel's advice when making my speech, but I was soundly attacked by my colleagues, both opposite and on this side, for my ignorance and illiteracy, and my disrespect for la belle langue.
