I remember, of course, that the inquiry of the government operations committee into the Office of the Privacy Commissioner was sort of a catalyst for a lot of us realizing, first of all, the need for better whistle-blower protection, because we remember the scene when these honest, well-meaning whistle-blowers were so concerned about their own protection or lack of it that they felt they had to bring legal counsel with them to make their presentations to a standing committee of the House of Commons.
Je me rappelle, bien entendu, que l'enquête menée par le comité des opérations gouvernementales à propos du Bureau du commissaire à la protection de la vie privée a plus ou moins amené un grand nombre d'entre nous à nous rendre compte tout d'abord qu'il fallait assurer une meilleure protection aux dénonciateurs parce que nous nous rappelons la scène où ces dénonciateurs honnêtes et bien intentionnés se sentaient tellement mal protégés qu'ils ont estimé nécessaire d'être accompagnés de leurs avocats pour faire leurs exposés devant un comité permanent de la Chambre des communes.
