− Mr President, I would like to thank all the speakers for their very important and interesting contributions, and when we finalise our white paper on adaptation we shall take into account what has been expressed today and what the resolution of the European Parliament is recommending.

I can only support what has already been said by several MEPs, namely that it is high time that we focused on fundamental rights within the European Union in order to be credible and be able to talk about fundamental rights outside the European Union.

Mr President, honourable Members, let me first thank the Portuguese Presidency and Mr Lobo Antunes for the priority the Portuguese Presidency is giving to the EU perspective on the Western Balkans as we have seen again today. That is very important for Europe’s future.
- (EN) Monsieur le Président, honorables députés, permettez-moi tout d’abord de remercier la présidence portugaise et M. Lobo Antunes d’accorder la priorité à la perspective européenne des Balkans occidentaux, comme nous l’avons encore vu aujourd’hui. C’est très important pour l’avenir de l’Europe.

Today, we are going to vote on a motion, a very important motion for a resolution calling for an end to the sanctions, an end to the embargo.
Aujourd'hui, nous allons voter une motion très importante, une résolution qui exige la fin des sanctions, la fin de l'embargo.

I would like to expressly thank Mrs Buitenweg for her excellent work and I assume that we will adopt this report by a clear majority today, even if the Commissioner responsible has let it be known here today that she cannot accept half the amendments. Nevertheless, a very important step is being taken today and we are giving a signal.
Je remercie sincèrement ma collègue pour son travail remarquable et ne doute pas que nous approuverons ce rapport à une large majorité, même si la commissaire compétente nous a fait savoir aujourd'hui qu'elle ne peut accepter la moitié des amendements.
