[English] Ms. Janet Dench: If I may, I would suggest that it would be very much appreciated from our side if the committee could recommend that the government include, in all of its contracts with other authorities for the detention of immigration detainees, strict standards that must be abided by in the case of these detainees, and that those standards address things like appropriate food, medical care, access to NGOs, visits with family and friends, access to telephones, lawyers—a whole range of things that the facilities, whether they be provincial jails or others that are detaining immigration detainees, would be required to meet before the immigration department, CBSA, would sign a contract, because they are the detaining body and they should have some accountability for the standards under which people are detained.
