Je tiens à remercier dans ce sens la commission économique et monétaire ainsi que M. Casa pour le travail entamé depuis plusieurs mois afin de permettre au Parlement d'émettre son avis dans les délais serrés avec lesquels doivent travailler nos trois institutions afin d'effectuer une évaluation rigoureuse du respect des critères par l'État membre concerné et de lui laisser le temps suffisant pour mener à bien les préparatifs pratiques pour l'adoption de l'euro au 1er janvier 2009.
In this respect I would like to thank the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Mr Casa for the work begun some months ago to enable Parliament to give its opinion within the tight deadlines that our three institutions are given to make a sound assessment of the fulfilment of the criteria by the Member State concerned, and to leave it enough time to complete the practical arrangements for adopting the euro on 1 January 2009.
