Support under the proposed programme will be provided by the Commission upon request from a Member State and will be available for: (i) the implementation of reforms in the context of economic governance processes, in particular of the CSRs, and/or other actions related to the implementation of Union law; (ii) reforms associated with the implementation of economic adjustment programmes for Member States receiving Union financial assistance; and (iii) reforms that Member States undertake at their own initiative in order to achieve sustainable investment, growth and job creation.

On a proposal from Monika Wulf-Mathies, Commissioner responsible for regional policies and cohesion, the Commission has decided to grant ERDF assistance of ECU 75.772 million to Italy and Greece (ECU 55.772 million for Italy and ECU 20 million for Greece) under the Community Initiative INTERREG II. The aim of the programme is to complete the interconnection between the electricity distribution networks of Italy and Greece. Under this programme the connection between the Italian and Greek 400-kW electricity supply networks linking Arachthos in Greece and Galatina in Italy, already established thanks to the precursor programme under REGEN, will be further expanded.
