The Commission communication was broadly welcomed as it was generally recognized that the European Community has a positive role to play in protection of the health of the European citizens; it was recognized that health has implications in many other aspects of activities in the European Community such as tackling the problems of drug abuse and crime as well as improving employability; further work will be taken forward under following Presidencies.
