Hon. Lucie Pépin: Honourable senators, the Committee of the Whole has adopted the motion referred to it with respect to the appointment of Ms. Jennifer Stoddart as Privacy Commissioner for a seven-year term, and has asked me to report that the committee has completed its proceedings.

Conformément à l'ordre adopté plus tôt aujourd'hui, le Sénat s'ajourne à loisir et se forme en Comité plénier afin d'étudier la motion de l'honorable sénateur Carstairs, que, conformément au paragraphe 53(1) de la Loi visant à compléter la législation canadienne en matière de protection des renseignements personnels et de droit d'accès des individus aux renseignements personnels qui les concernent, chapitre P-21 des Lois révisées du Canada (1985), le Sénat approuve la nomination de Jennifer Stoddart, de Westmount (Québec), à titre de Commissaire à la protection de la vie privée pour un mandat de sept ans, sous la présidence de l'honorable sénateur Pépin.
Pursuant to the Order adopted earlier this day, the Senate was adjourned during pleasure and put into a Committee of the Whole on the motion of the Honourable Senator Carstairs, P.C.: that, in accordance with Section 53(1) of the Act to extend the present laws of Canada that protect the privacy of individuals and that provide individuals with a right of access to personal information about themselves, Chapter P-21 of the Revised Statutes of Canada 1985, the Senate approve the appointment of Jennifer Stoddart of Westmount, Quebec, as Privacy Commissioner for a term of seven years, the Honourable Senator Pépin in the Chair.
