To illustrate this, I would like to underline that my DG alone dealt with 491 Directives and 223 Regulations in 2005, with the underlying goal of making life easier for both businesses and consumers and of creating a level playing field for all.

Dans mon intervention, j’aimerais revenir sur le paragraphe 26 du rapport, dans lequel le Parlement européen déclare explicitement à la Commission qu’il n’est pas satisfait, que la lutte contre la pauvreté reçoit suffisamment de ressources dans le cadre de l’aide au développement et qu’il faut tirer parti du nouveau système d’évaluation convenu.
In my contribution I should like to refer to paragraph 26 of the report, which states explicitly to the Commission, on behalf of this Parliament, that we are not satisfied that development aid is sufficiently focused on poverty eradication and that we need to build on the agreed benchmark system.

Mon argument - repris dans mon rapport et soutenu par mes collègues - est que si le système d'évaluation et de développement fonctionne correctement, il n'y a aucun obstacle à la mise en place d'une structure de carrière linéaire - et c'est là l'idée maîtresse de votre démarche.
It is my argument – and indeed that was expressed in my report and supported by colleagues – that if the appraisal and development system works properly there are no obstacles to achieving the linear career structure – and that is the whole thrust of what you are trying to do.
