En mars 2012, la Commission confirmait qu’elle avait demandé à cinq grands opérateurs de télécommunications (à savoir Deutsche Telecom, France Télécom, Telefónica, Vodafone et Telecom Italia, également dénommés «E5») ainsi qu’à l’association du secteur de la téléphonie mobile (GSMA) de lui fournir des informations sur la définition des normes applicables aux futurs services de communication mobile.
In March 2012 the Commission confirmed that it had requested information from five large telecom operators (the "E5": Deutsche Telecom, France Télécom, Telefónica, Vodafone and Telecom Italia) and from the mobile sector association GSMA about the way standards for future mobile communications services are being developed.

Saisie d’une plainte, la Commission a, par décision du 4 juillet 2007 , déclaré que Telefónica et Telefónica de España (ci-après « Telefónica ») avaient abusé, entre septembre 2001 et décembre 2006, de leur position dominante en imposant des prix inéquitables à leurs concurrents sous la forme d’un ciseau tarifaire entre les prix de l’accès à haut débit de détail sur le marché « grand public » espagnol et les prix de l’accès à haut débit de gros aux niveaux régional et national.
After receiving a complaint, the Commission declared, by decision of 4 July 2007, that Telefónica and Telefónica de Espaħa (‘Telefónica’) had abused their dominant position by imposing unfair prices on their competitors in the form of a margin squeeze between the prices for retail broadband access on the Spanish ‘mass market’ and the prices on the regional and national wholesale broadband access markets throughout the period from September 2001 to December 2006.

(45) Alcatel s'est angagée vis-à-vis de la Commission à acheter à Telefonica sa participation minoritaire dans Telettra et Telettra España SA, et elle engagera des négociations en vue d'acheter à Telefonica sa participation minoritaire dans Alcatel Standard Electrica SA. Les liens verticaux qui existent entre Telefonica et Telettra disparaîtront ainsi et, étant donné que Telefonica est disposée à prendre en considération toute offre appropriée, il est probable que le lien vertical entre Telefonica et Alcatel disparaîtra également, Alcatel ayant pris des engagements à cet égard.
(45) Alcatel has entered into a commitment vis-à-vis the Commission whereby Alcatel will acquire from Telefonica the minority shareholdings in Telettra and Telettra España SA and will enter into negotiations to acquire from Telefonica the minority shareholding in Alcatel Standard Electrica SA. The vertical links between Telefonica and Telettra will therefore disappear and given Telefonica's willingness to consider appropriate offers, there is a probability that the vertical link between Telefonica and Alcatel will also be removed, given Alcatel's commitment in this respect.
