– Monsieur le Président, Monsieur le Commissaire, Mesdames et Messieurs les députés, en guise de conclusion à ce débat, d’abord d’une façon générale, je souhaiterais vous redire combien, à la veille des rencontres du G20, nous avions clairement en tête que l’intérêt de l’Union était d’arriver à un résultat acceptable sur beaucoup de dossiers et que nous devions faire en sorte que le G20 demeure d’abord un forum crédible et légitime, capable de produire des résultats concrets, comme je le disais tout à l’heure, et de donner une impulsion politique coordonnée à la globalisation afin que l’Union, notamment, arrive à faire entendre sa voix dans ce contexte. Je pense, sans occulter les difficultés – vous avez été nombreux à vous référer à ces difficultés – que l’Union a tenu son rôle et qu’on peut considérer comme satisfaisant le travail des institutions européennes et des pays de l’Union, qui participent à ces discussions du G20.
– (FR) Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, to conclude this debate, I would like to begin, in general terms, by saying once again that, on the eve of the G20 meetings, we were really very clear on the fact that it was important for the Union to reach a satisfactory outcome on a large number of issues, and that we had to work to ensure that the G20 remained, first and foremost, a credible and legitimate forum, capable of producing concrete results, as I was saying just now, and of giving a coordinated political impetus to globalisation, so that the Union, in particular, can make its voice heard in this context. I think, without glossing over the difficulties – and many of you have referred to those difficulties – that the Union has fulfilled its obligations and that the work of the European institutions and of the countries of the Union, which participate in these G20 discussions, can be judged to have been satisfactory.
