En terminant, je voudrais rendre hommage à un député qui a parlé et a fait une longue bataille sur ce sujet, il s'agit de l'ex-député François Gérin, de Mégantic-Compton-Stanstead qui, à l'intérieur du Parti conservateur, avait mené une bataille pendant six ans pour le financement populaire des partis politiques et également il l'avait menée à l'intérieur du Bloc québécois puisque c'est lui qui avait proposé, lors de la fondation du Bloc québécois, que les partis politiques ne soient financés que par les individus ayant le droit de vote (1410) Alors cet ex-député qui a siégé neuf ans à la Chambre, François Gérin, a été le pionnier en cette matière au Canada pour ce qui est du financement populaire des partis politiques.
In closing, I would like to pay tribute to a member who spoke up and fought a long battle on this issue, namely François Gérin, the former member for Mégantic-Compton-Stanstead who, within the Conservative Party, fought a six-year battle for the funding of political parties by the people. He pursued his campaign with the Bloc Quebecois as he was the one who proposed, when the Bloc was founded, that political parties be financed only by individuals with the right to vote (1410) So this former member who sat for nine years in this House, François Gérin, was a pioneer on this issue-the funding of political parties by the people-in Canada.
