‘aeronautical mobile service’ means a mobile service between aeronautical stations and aircraft stations, or between aircraft stations, in which survival craft stations may participate; emergency position-indicating radio beacon stations may also participate in this service on designated distress and emergency frequencies.

(4)For Region 1, which includes the Union, the International Telecommunication Union’s Radio Regulations adopted by the World Radiocommunication Conference have allocated the 700 MHz frequency band to the broadcasting and the mobile (except aeronautical mobile) service on a co-primary basis, and the 470-694 MHz (‘sub-700 MHz’) frequency band exclusively to the broadcasting service, on a primary basis, and to wireless audio PMSE use, on a secondary basis.

Due to difficulties in satisfying the demand for VHF assignments in the aeronautical mobile radio communication service band 117,975 to 137 MHz — and taking into account the limitations for increasing the allocated spectrum and/or frequency re-use — the International Civil Aviation Organisation (hereinafter ICAO) decided to reduce the channel spacing from 25 to 8,33 kHz.
Gezien de moeilijkheid om te voorzien in de behoefte aan VHF-frequenties in de band die gereserveerd is voor mobiele radiocommunicatie in de luchtvaart — van 117,975 tot 137 MHz — en gelet op de beperkte mogelijkheden voor uitbreiding van het toegewezen spectrum en/of hergebruik van frequenties, heeft de Internationale Burgerluchtvaartorganisatie (ICAO) besloten om de kanaalafstand te verminderen van 25 tot 8,33 kHz.

2. This Regulation shall apply to air-ground voice communications systems based on 8,33 kHz channel spacing within the aeronautical mobile radio communication service band 117,975-137 MHz, their constituents and associated procedures and to flight data processing systems serving air traffic control units providing services to general air traffic, their constituents and associated procedures.

Deze verordening is van toepassing op systemen voor mondelinge lucht-grondcommunicatie met 8,33 kHz-kanaalafstand binnen de voor mobiele radiocommunicatie in de luchtvaart gereserveerde frequentieband van 117,975-137 MHz, hun onderdelen en desbetreffende procedures, alsook op systemen voor de uitwisseling van vluchtgegevens die worden gebruikt door luchtverkeersleidingseenheden welke diensten voor het algemene luchtverkeer verlenen en de onderdelen en desbetreffende procedures daarvan.
