Motions Pursuant to Standing Order 56.1(1), Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), seconded by Mr. Gagliano (Minister of Public Works and Government Services), moved, That, notwithstanding any Standing Order or usual practice of this House, during consideration of Government Business No. 23, any speech by the Prime Minister or the Leader of the Opposition may be followed by a ten-minute period for questions and comments and the House shall continue to sit after 6:30 p.m. this day for the purpose of considering the said Government Business, provided that after 6:30 p.m. the Chair shall not receive any quorum calls, dilatory motions or requests for unanimous consent to propose any motion and provided that when no Member rises to speak or at 8:00 a.m., whichever is earlier, the House shall adjourn to the next sitting day.
Motions Conformément à l'article 56.1(1) du Règlement, M. Boudria (leader du gouvernement à la Chambre des communes), appuyé par M. Motions Pursuant to Standing Order 56.1(1), Mr. Boudria (Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), seconded by Mr. Kilger (Stormont Dundas), moved, That, on Monday, February 9, 1998, at the ordinary time of adjournment, proceedings pursuant to Standing Order 38 shall not be taken up, but, at that time, a motion to adjourn shall be deemed to have been proposed and the said motion shall be debated under the following conditions: (a) Members wishing to speak shall address the question of the invitation to Canada by the United States of America to participate in possible military actions in the Middle East; (b) No Member shall speak for more than twenty minutes, with no period being allotted for questions and comments, and two Members may share one twenty-minute period; (c) No dilatory motions or quorum calls shall be received; (d) When no Member rises to speak, the motion shall be deemed to have been adopted.

I am simply going to move the following motion: (1615 ) I move: That the motion be amended by deleting all the words after the word ``that'' and substituting the following therefor: ``a Message be sent to the Senate to acquaint their Honours that this House disagrees with amendment 1 made by the Senate to Bill C-42, an act to amend the Judges Act and to make consequential amendments to another act, and that this House agrees with the principles set out in amendment 2, but would propose the following amendments: Insert the words ``for a period not to exceed three years'' after the words ``judicial duties'' in section 56.1(1); and Strike out all the lines in section 56.1(2) and substitute the following: ``If Madam Justice Arbour elects to take leave pursuant to section 56.1(1) she may receive moving or transportation expenses and reasonable travel and other expenses, in connection with her services as Prosecutor, from the United Nations''; and
