It would be quite utterly wrong to support one of the parties to the conflict on the ground, and it needs to be stressed above all that since, at the moment, Ethiopia and Eritrea have a manifest and considerable interest in using Somalian territory as a place in which to settle their differences by force of arms, it is very important that the European Union should, through diplomatic channels, make it perfectly plain to both of them that this is just not on.
Il serait absolument déplacé de soutenir une des parties impliquées dans le conflit sur le terrain. En outre, il faut souligner que l’Éthiopie et l’Érythrée ayant en ce moment un intérêt évident et considérable à utiliser le territoire somalien pour régler leurs différends par les armes, il est très important que l’Union européenne fasse comprendre de façon parfaitement claire, par voie diplomatique, qu’une intervention de l’Union n’est en aucun cas à l’ordre du jour.
