I will start off my comments by saying I find it almost amusing to hear some of the comments coming from the members opposite, particularly the member for Scarborough Centre, who just finished speaking.

I maintain that this is truly undemocratic for all of us who are Non-attached Members; we are elected representatives of the people, just like all the others.

I would like to say that all the Members who have spoken have spoken with sincerity, with a strength and a hope which I believe represent the spirit not just of the European Parliament, but also of the majority, and hopefully all, of the citizens of the Union.

– (ES) Mr President, as a Member representing the Balearic islands, I must acknowledge that what Mr Sturdy has said is true and, therefore, given that this is the Parliament that represents all European citizens, I would request that protection be afforded to these citizens, who are just as much citizens of the Balearics as the rest of us who were born there, who live there and who have Spanish nationality.
