The Law on Maritime Safety entered into force in January 2001. The Law provides a legal basis for ship inspection and relevant activities of maritime administrations, port state control and a minimum level of training of seafarers. In 2002, Poland had three Maritime Offices, under which operate the inspectorates which carry out flag State control and port State control, and the Inspectorate of Maritime Environmental Protection.
