Moving on to the issue of the nuclear threat and now moving to the question of the Iranian situation, which I said I would take up and is a part of the questions and answers, let me just say what we find with regard to what we are witnessing in Khamenei's Iran today—and I use that term because I want to distinguish it from the people and public of Iran, who are otherwise the object of massive domestic repression.

Deplores the fact that Iran has not agreed with the IAEA to a scheme to supply nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor, which would contribute to building confidence while responding to Iran’s need for medical radio-isotopes; notes with great concern that Iran has failed to take up repeated offers by China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the EU High Representative Javier Solana to further discuss its nuclear programme and other issues of mutual concern; remains committed, nonetheless, to working towards a diplomatic solution to the issue of Iran’s nuclear programme;

On behalf of myself and other human rights activists from within Iran, I would like to thank the committee and the Canadian government for paying attention to human rights issues in Iran without considering the political effects of this issue. The violation of human rights in Iran is systematically done by the government.

Finally, to link back to my urging on the issue of access for human rights activists and independent organizations, Iran, of course, has also not allowed any of the special mechanisms of the UN to come into Iran since the summer of 2005, when Mr. Ahmadinejad became president, despite an earlier commitment made by the Government of Iran when it issued an open invitation to all those mechanisms.
Finalement, je reviens aux contacts avec les organismes indépendants de défense des droits de la personne.
