Met dit luik wordt uitvoering gegeven aan UN-resolutie 1612 van de Veiligheidsraad [...] "to establish a monitoring and reporting mechanism (MRM), managed by country-based task forces co-led by UNICEF and the highest UN representative in the country, to provide timely and reliable information on six grave children's rights violations: a) Killing or maiming of children b) Recruitment or use of children by armed forces or armed groups c) Attacks on schools or hospitals d) Rape or other sexual violence against children e) Abduction of children f) Denial of humanitarian access to children" De activiteiten die België financiert, richten zich op: - enerzijds functionerende MRM's en implementatie van actieplannen in CAR, Tsjaad, DRC, Myanmar, Filippijnen, Somalië, Zuid-Soedan; - en anderzijds een bijdrage voor het hoofdkwartier "to support functioning of MRM at all levels.
Le volet du programme consacré au mécanisme de surveillance est une réponse concrète à la résolution 1612 du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies qui demande "to establish a monitoring and reporting mechanism (MRM), managed by country-based task forces co-led by UNICEF and the highest UN representative in the country, to provide timely and reliable information on six grave children's rights violations: a) Killing or maiming of children; b) Recruitment or use of children by armed forces or armed groups; c) Attacks on schools or hospitals; d) Rape or other sexual violence against children; e) Abduction of children; f) Denial of humanitarian access to children". La Belgique répartit les moyens alloués entre deux types d'intervention: - soutien à des mécanismes de surveillance efficaces et mise en oeuvre de plans d'action en RCA, Somalie, RDC, aux Philippines, au Myanmar et au Soudan du Sud; - appui au siège de l'Unicef pour la mise en place effective à tous les niveaux du MRM.

10. Alarmed, at the same time, about certain practices which violate most fundamental human rights and freedoms and are contrary to international human rights treaties which form the cornerstone of post-World War II human rights protection, such as indefinite imprisonment of foreign citizens without charge and without examining the legality of their detention by an independent and impartial tribunal, degrading treatment during interrogations, the interception of private communications without subsequently informing those concerned, extradition to countries likely to apply the death penalty or use torture or ill-treatment, and detention and harassment on the grounds of political or religious activity,

9. Calls upon all parties to armed conflict to respect fully international law applicable to the rights and protection of women and girls, especially as civilians, in particular the obligations applicable to them under the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the Additional Protocols thereto of 1977, the Refugee Convention of 1951 and the Protocol thereto of 1967, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women of 1979 and the Optional Protocol thereto of 1999 and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989 and the two Optional Protocols thereto of 25 May 2000, and to bear in mind the relevant provisions of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court;

24. Reiterates the importance for the Republic of Moldova to adhere to the principles of democracy, the protection of human rights and the rule of law, including the independence of the judiciary, notes in this respect the controversial court decision against Valeriu Pasat, which raises concerns from the viewpoint of internationally accepted standards of justice, and recommends that the Parliamentary Team on Moldova explore thoroughly the legal and human rights aspects of the Pasat case and inform the Assembly of its findings;
24. Réaffirme qu'il est important que la République de Moldova adhère aux principes de la démocratie, de la protection des droits de l'homme et de l'état de droit, y compris au principe de l'indépendance de la justice, note à cet égard la décision controversée d'un tribunal contre Valeriu Pasat, préoccupante du point de vue de la conformité avec les normes internationalement reconnues en matière de justice, et recommande à l'Equipe parlementaire sur la Moldova d'examiner de manière approfondie les aspects juridiques et liés aux droits de l'homme de cette affaire, puis d'informer l'Assemblée de ses conclusions;

En août dernier, j’ai participé à la Conférence européenne sur l’épilepsie et la société, à Porto, où le rapport intitulé «L’épilepsie dans la région européenne de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé» a été présenté dans le cadre de la Campagne mondiale contre l’épilepsie.

13. moedigt voorts de activiteiten aan van niet-gouvernementele organisaties die zich inzetten voor afschaffing van de doodstraf, waaronder Hands Off Cain, Amnesty International, Penal Reform International, World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, de Internationale Helsinki-Federatie voor mensenrechten, Sant'Egidio en Reprieve; verwelkomt en steunt de aanbevelingen betreffende EU-instrumenten in de strijd tegen de doodstraf die op het twaalfde EU-NGO Forum inzake de mensenrechten werden gedaan;
13. encourage également les activités d'organisations non gouvernementales qui œuvrent à l'abolition de la peine de mort, y compris Hands Off Cain, Amnesty International, Penal Reform International, la Coalition mondiale contre la peine de mort et la Fédération internationale de Helsinki pour les droits de l'homme, Sant'Egidio et Reprieve; salue et soutient les recommandations relatives aux instruments de l'Union dans la lutte contre la peine de mort adoptées lors du 12 forum UE-ONG sur les droits de l'homme;
