À la suite de Tampere, le Conseil a adopté au mois de mars 2000 "la stratégie de l'Union européenne pour le début du nouveau millénaire concernant la prévention et le contrôle de la criminalité organisée" dans laquelle tous les thèmes précédemment mentionnés ont été repris en tant que recommandations prioritaires à adopter par le Conseil dans des délais bien définis (l'incrimination de blanchiment des produits du crime d'ici au 31 décembre 2000, l'exécution des décisions de confiscation d'ici au 31 décembre 2002).
Following Tampere, the Council adopted the European Union strategy for the beginning of the new millennium for the prevention and control of organised crime, which recommended that all the points set out above be made priorities to be adopted by the Council within clearly defined time limits (criminalisation of laundering of the proceeds of crime by 31 December 2000, execution of confiscation orders by 31 December 2002).
