L'honorable Grant Mitchell : Honorables sénateurs, bien qu'il soit important de déterminer combien de candidats unilingues anglophones ont décidé de ne pas poser leur candidature à ce poste parce qu'ils ont cru ce qu'ils avaient lu, à savoir que la maîtrise des deux langues officielles était essentielle, il est tout aussi important de déterminer pourquoi le candidat, de toute évidence unilingue, qui a été sélectionné a posé sa candidature à ce poste, puisqu'il avait dû lire que le poste était réservé à des personnes bilingues.

Grant Mitchell: Honourable senators, as important a question as how many unilingual anglophones decided not to apply because they actually believe what they read, namely that proficiency in both official languages is essential, equally important is why would this person who had been selected, who was clearly unilingual — and he, of course, would have known it — apply when he would have read this and should have ruled himself out at the outset entirely?
