It should, however, be pointed out that the promotion of matters related to the ICC cannot be limited to the albeit very important matters of signing and ratifying the Statute, for, as it showed at the June meeting of the UN Preparatory Commission for the International Criminal Court, the European Union has restated its commitment to the integrity of the ICC Statute, and has consequently refused to amend the Statute in order to satisfy the demands of some third countries to withdraw the requirement to hand nationals of states that are not party to the Statute over to the ICC.
