Although these matters are becoming increasingly urgent, the budgets allocated are diminishing and, in light of the Europe 2020 strategy, the preparations for the 8th Framework Programme and the upcoming Communication on building an Innovation Union, I have the following two questions for Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn: Given that healthy ageing has been defined a key priority by the Commission, when can a detailed and specific policy proposal be expected and how will this be backed up by European, national or regional executive policy steps and funding? On a completely different matter, how will resource efficiency and the substitution of high-tech scarce materials be included in the field of research and innovation?
