(7) The Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking (hereinafter ‘S2R Joint Undertaking’) should be a PPP aimed at stimulating and better coordinating Union research and innovation investments in the rail sector with a view to accelerating and facilitating the transition towards a more integrated, efficient, sustainable and attractive EU railway market, in line with the business needs of the rail sector and with the general objective of achieving a Single European Railway Area.

(7) L'entreprise commune Shift2Rail (ci-après dénommée l'«entreprise commune S2R») devrait être un partenariat public-privé visant à stimuler et à mieux coordonner les investissements en faveur de la recherche et de l'innovation dans le secteur ferroviaire, tout en créant de nouvelles perspectives d'emploi, en vue d'accélérer et de faciliter la transition vers un marché ferroviaire de l'UE plus intégré, convivial, efficace, durable et attrayant, adapté aux besoins des entreprises du secteur ferroviaire et conforme à l'objectif général de la réalisation d'un espace ferroviaire unique européen.
