L’opération, qui fait suite à un prêt accordé en 1976 à Sonasut – prédécesseur de la CST – apporte un soutien supplémentaire au secteur du sucre en Afrique centrale, qui avait déjà bénéficié de diverses opérations réalisées de la BEI avec la société mère de la CST – le groupe Somdiaa – au Cameroun entre 1966 et 2000, ainsi que d’une opération de prise de participation à hauteur de 6,25 % dans AIG African infrastructure Fund LLCC, entité qui détient elle-même 13,5 % de Somdiaa.
