Calls on the Commission to complete the roadmap on procedural rights and to monitor the transposition of the adopted directives, ensuring that the basic rights of suspects and accused persons are protected sufficiently through common minimum standards of procedural rights in criminal proceedings and rendering effective the principle of mutual recognition;

Any Member State may, on adoption of this Framework Decision or later, in a declaration deposited with the General Secretariat of the Council state that it, as an executing State, may without delay after receiving the judgment and the certificate, request, in cases where it finds the content of the certificate insufficient to decide on the enforcement of the sentence, that the judgment or essential parts of it be accompanied by a translation into the official language or one of the official languages of the executing State or into one or more other official languages of the Institutions of the European Union.

J’estime que c’est au système judiciaire, quel qu’il soit, qu’il incombe de s’assurer que les prévenus comprennent les implications de tout jugement rendu en leur absence et que leurs droits fondamentaux soient protégés à cet égard.
I believe that the onus has to be on the judicial system, wherever it is, to ensure that the defendants understand the implications of any judgments made in their absence, and that their fundamental rights are protected in this respect.

Je tiens donc à féliciter le député de présenter sa motion dans laquelle il prie une fois encore notre ministre de la Justice de faire un pas en avant, d'en appeler de la décision devant la Cour suprême du Canada et de demander que les jugements rendus par les tribunaux inférieurs, d'autres cours, soient différés.
So I commend the member for bringing this motion forward, asking again that our justice minister step forward and ask for an appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada, ask for a stay on the decision that's been granted in some of the lower courts, other courts, and I am very much looking forward to supporting this motion.
