Dans sa résolution du 8 juin 2005 sur les "défis politiques et les moyens budgétaires de l'Union élargie 2007-2013", le Parlement européen a proposé une augmentation d'un milliard d'euros (aux prix 2004) en précisant que ces crédits seraient consacrés aux droits fondamentaux et à la lutte contre la criminalité.
In its resolution of 8 June 2005 on "Policy Challenges and Budgetary Means of the Enlarged Union 2007-2013" the European Parliament proposed an increase of EUR 1 billion (2004 prices) specifying that it should be dedicated to fundamental rights and the fight against crime.
