C’est pourquoi Israël devra choisir entre rester une démocratie et se développer démocratiquement – au sens de reconnaître et de permettre à sa population voisine, les Palestiniens, d’exercer ses droits démocratiques – et conserver sa politique actuelle d’entrave à ces droits et glisser occasionnellement vers un comportement non démocratique, un manque d’ouverture, l’étroitesse d’esprit, la xénophobie et la répression de la société civile.
This is why Israel will have to make a choice between remaining a democracy and developing democratically – in the sense of recognising and allowing its neighbouring population, the Palestinians, to exercise their democratic rights – and maintaining its current policy of undermining those rights and occasionally sliding into undemocratic behaviour, lack of openness, narrow-mindedness, xenophobia and repression of its civil society.
