Question No. 868 Ms. Niki Ashton: With regard to Canada’s Muskoka Initiative: (a) which percentage of the amount allocated to the Muskoka Initiative is devoted to family planning; (b) what is the breakdown of family planning funding that has been disbursed so far; and (c) how much family planning funding will be spent?

The role of the Union is to take the lead, to undertake initiatives, to suggest to NATO means of closer cooperation, to pass from words to deeds, and I take the example of the recent letter by the Polish, German and French Foreign Ministers, to which Lady Ashton did react, as a good starting point in the right direction.

Notre Parlement doit rester vigilant et appeler l’Union européenne, et en particulier Mme Ashton, à faire passer ce respect du droit international et des droits de l’homme avant toute autre considération en en faisant, bien sûr, un axe fort de l’ordre du jour du prochain sommet Union européenne/Union africaine qui se tiendra les 29 et 30 novembre en Lybie.
This House must remain vigilant and call on the European Union, and Baroness Ashton in particular, to put this respect for international law and human rights before any other consideration by, of course, making it a major topic on the agenda of the forthcoming European Union-African Union summit to be held on 29-30 November in Libya.
