Par ailleurs, Erasmus Mundus contribue aussi à promouvoir l’excellence universitaire dans l’enseignement supérieur européen, dès lors qu’il encourage les établissements européens d’enseignement supérieur à renforcer la coopération et le travail conjoint avec d’autres établissements de ce type considérés comme des « références mondiales » dans certaines disciplines.
Erasmus Mundus has also begun to make a contribution to the promotion of academic excellence in European higher education, in particular by encouraging European HEIs to foster co-operation and joint working with other HEIs regarded as “world-class” in particular subject disciplines.

Néanmoins, le programme Erasmus Mundus ne doit pas uniquement bénéficier aux universités européennes. Il doit aussi contribuer à améliorer le niveau de vie, le développement des ressources humaines et relever les seuils de pauvreté dans les pays tiers.
Nevertheless, the Erasmus Mundus programme should not only benefit European universities but also contribute to the improvement of standards of living, to the development of human resources and the raising of poverty thresholds in third countries.
