The Heads of State or Government of the Member States with the euro as their currency adopted a Decision, by the written procedure on 20 May, appointing Mr Lorenzo Bini Smaghi as a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank for a period of eight years as from 1 June, to replace Mr Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa, whose term of office expires on 31 May.
