In road transport, projects are moving forward and the Commission is recommending action on three fronts: - a study to be carried out in 1991 on the future prospects for a Community motorway network up to the year 2010; - Community financial support for projects to link up existing networks: -links across the Pyrenees: Toulouse-Madrid and Bordeaux-Valencia (completion of the tunnel under the Somport in 1995) and Toulouse-Barcelona (completion of the Puymorens tunnel in 1994); - the Brenner route; - improving communications with outlying regions: - road link to Ireland: A5/A55 link between Crewe and Holyhead in the United Kingdom; - the Brindisi-Patras-Athens route; - the Madrid-Lisbon link; - improving communications with the Community's neighbours: - Scandinavia: - Alborg-Frederikshavn motorway; - Fehmarn link; - Athens-Evzoni-Yugoslavia.
