The joint review report published today finds in particular that US authorities respect their obligations regardig the access rights of passengers and have a regular oversight mechanism in place to guard against unlawful discrimination.

In this context, it is also pertinent to mention that on 26 April 2010 the EDPS issued an Opinion on a notification for Prior Checking received from the Data Protection Officer of the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (FRONTEX) concerning the ‘Collection of names and certain other relevant data of returnees for join return operations (JRO)’ (hereinafter the ‘Prior Check Opinion’) (4).
