Last summer, the Minister of Justice was happy to report at the Canadian Bar Association Annual Meeting and in a letter to the Commissioner for Official Languages that his government has filled more than 100 vacancies, and that approximately one-third of these appointments were women and more than one-third were bilingual men and women, who at the time of their appointment were capable of hearing a trial in either of Canada's official languages.
