As you may recall in his appearance before our committee, the president and chief executive officer of Nevsun, Cliff Davis, testified that of the 1,194 Eritrean nationals employed at the Bisha site, 88% of the total employed there, are “there of their own free will”. He went on to say they received pay far above Eritrean standards, in addition to medical care, free food, and accommodation at the mine.
