TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

Simplement, les traductions et, notamment, la traduction française n’a pas été correcte sur la dernière version, et la traduction française, jusqu’à ce matin, contenait toujours cette expression de force d’occupation, d’où l’intervention de mon collègue Juvin.
Quite simply, the translations, and particularly the French translation, were not correct in the latest version, and the French translation, until this morning, still contained the expression ‘occupation force’, hence the speech by my colleague Mr Juvin.

Je pense que la traduction anglaise, qui est l’autre texte dont je dispose ici, doit y faire référence, puisqu’il comporte sept lignes de plus que la traduction française et que ces sept lignes font précisément mention de ce que je viens de préciser, notamment du montant minimum proposé de 21,35 milliards d’euros.
I think that the English translation, which is the other text that I have here, must refer to this matter, because it is seven lines longer than the French translation and those seven lines make specific reference to what I have just mentioned, in particular the proposed minimum amount of EUR 21.35 billion.

Quiconque a étudié le problème sait qu’il existe une "énigme" des traductions : alors que la version italienne admet le principe selon lequel l'insularité est un des critères suffisants pour l'intervention de la Communauté, la traduction française, suivie par d'autres langues, exprime un concept différent et la traduction anglaise est exactement à mi-chemin et se prête aux deux interprétations.
Anyone who has studied the issue is aware of the mystery of the translations: while the Italian version adopts the principle that island status is one of the valid criteria for Community intervention, the French and other translations express a different concept and the English translation is ambiguous and could be interpreted in either way.
