Tevens wordt het toepassingsgebied van het Protocol betreffende de positie van het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Ierland (1997) zodanig uitgebreid dat het, wat het UK betreft, onder dezelfde voorwaarden ook de hoofdstukken inzake justitiële samenwerking in strafzaken en politiële samenwerking omvat. Het kan ook betrekking hebben op de toepassing van het Protocol in verband met de op Schengen voortbouwende maatregelen en de wijziging van de bestaande maatregelen.
