The DEVE commission will thus be submitting to the general assembly the draft opinion prepared by its chairman, Jerzy Zająkała (mayor of Łubianka, PL/UEN-AE), which seeks to promote the restrictions on the use of hazardous substances in EEE and the treatment of WEEE .

The process led to a sustained and structured in-depth dialogue between DEVE and the Commission, and constituted a useful learning process for both institutions: we learned about the difficulties faced by the Commission during programming, and your rapporteur hopes that the Commission also became more aware of the practical meaning of Parliament’s democratic scrutiny and our working methods.

In the first session of the afternoon, there will be an initial debate on “Rural development and equal opportunities policy: present and future” involving Marianne Eriksson, MEP, Deirdre Carroll, representing the Irish Presidency of the European Union (Assistant Secretary-General, Irish Ministry for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs), Robert Savy (FR-PES), member of the DEVE Commission and President of the Limousin Regional Council, as well as representatives of the European Commission, the European Commission’s Standing Group on Women in Rural Areas and the Estonian Rural Women's Association.

Following the presentation of oral questions to the Commission and the Council by the DEVE and INTA Committees, this Communication was widely debated in Plenary on 14 October, and was the subject of a resolution adopted practically unanimously.
Na mondelinge vragen van de commissies DEVE en INTA aan de Commissie en de Raad werd deze mededeling uitvoerig besproken in de plenaire vergadering van 14 oktober en werd hierover met vrijwel algemene stemmen een resolutie aangenomen.
