IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

The Commission will study ways of promoting science in all multimedia forms including television (European festival of science films for the general public, exchange mechanisms between audio-visual production structures, networks of regional television channels, etc) under the MEDIA Plus programme [14]. The Commission already supports the development and production of audio-visual works, including creative documentaries, for broadcasting on European television channels.
De Commissie bestudeert mogelijkheden om de zichtbaarheid van de wetenschap in alle multimediakanalen, inclusief de televisie, te bevorderen (Europees festival voor de wetenschappelijke publieksfilm, uitwisselingsmechanismen tussen audiovisuele productiestructuren, regionale kabeltelevisienetwerken, enz.). Notes that in the 2012 budget adopted by Parliament in plenary, EUR 8,5 million was earmarked for the EuroparlTV under the budget line 3246; recognises that whereas the budget for the EuroparlTV has been substantially reduced from EUR 9 million in 2008 to EUR 5 million in 2014, the performance of this service has been improved with a number of new activities and projects, inter alia, a larger proportion of ready to use audio-visual products with a longer lifespan, and a series of exclusive co-productions with national TV channels in several Member States, resulting in increasing audiences numbers; welcomes the ever increasing number of Parliament’s followers on social media, in particular on Facebook with its current more than 1,2 millions ‘friends’, for which exclusive EuroparlTV productions are developed; looks forward to receiving the independent evaluation study of Parliament’s online multimedia production commissioned in accordance with the decision of the Bureau of 3 December 2012;

Included are rentals of audiovisual and related products and access to encrypted television channels (such as cable or satellite services); mass-produced audio-visual products purchased or sold for perpetual use that are delivered electronically (downloaded); fees received by performing artists (actors, musicians, dancers), authors, composers etc. Excluded are charges or licences to reproduce and/or distribute audiovisual products (included in Charges for the use of intellectual property n.i.e.).
