I should therefore like to address in particular all those who have worked on the European project, who are members of the European Parliament, and say to them once again: You can be proud of the work accomplished by the European Parliament.

– (FR) Mr President, I would just like to say that the European Parliament has once again demonstrated its maturity and sense of responsibility, and I would point out to the Council, which is not here, that it should follow our example: we have produced a text which has the unanimous approval of practically the whole of our committee, and this is something we can be proud of.

In conclusion, Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, I must say once again how much the extraordinary course of European integration owes to the European Parliament, an institution which has always taken the lead in defending the values and principles that forged the identity of Europe and formed the fabric of ‘de facto solidarity’ our founders bequeathed to us.
En conclusion, M. le Président, mesdames et messieurs, je dois dire une fois encore combien le cours extraordinaire de l'intégration européenne est redevable au Parlement européen, une institution qui a toujours été un fer de lance dans la défense des valeurs et des principes qui ont forgé l'identité de l'Europe et la «solidarité de fait» que les fondateurs nous ont légués.

Once again, I too was very struck by the solidarity, generosity and proactive response of the people of Portugal, but also of the inhabitants of other regions, other countries and, as Mr Coelho said, not only countries in the European Union.
Encore une fois, j’ai moi aussi été très frappé par la solidarité, la générosité, la mobilisation de la population portugaise, mais aussi des habitants d’autres régions, d’autres pays et, comme M. Coelho l’a dit, pas seulement de pays de l’Union européenne.
