C. whereas an open-ended ceasefire, brokered by Egypt, was reached on 26 August between the Israeli and Palestinian sides; whereas the terms of the ceasefire reportedly include – similarly to past ceasefire arrangements – a lifting of the blockade, eliminating the buffer zone on the Gaza-Israel border and extending the fishing area, as well as an agreement to meet within a month in Cairo to discuss broader issues, including the rehabilitation of an airport and seaport in Gaza, the release of Palestinian prisoners and the disarmament of Palestinian militant groups;

C. whereas an open-ended ceasefire, brokered by Egypt, was agreed by both sides involved in the conflict and took effect on 26 August 2014; whereas, according to the ceasefire agreement, humanitarian aid should be allowed access to the Gaza Strip through crossings to Israel, the Rafah crossing should be opened, and the fishing zone should be extended to six miles off the coast of Gaza;

Welcomes the open-ended ceasefire, yet urges all parties to effectively implement the terms reached under this agreement; in particular, urges the Israeli authorities to lift immediately, unconditionally and completely the illegal closure of the Gaza Strip, which since 2006 has constituted collective punishment directed against the civilian population;

Is deeply concerned by the current conflict in South Sudan; calls for an immediate ceasefire between the two parties to the conflict, and expresses its support for impartial mediation with a view to securing an agreement as soon as possible; calls for more humanitarian aid to be supplied to the civilians who are caught in the fighting or who are fleeing the region; calls on the EU and its Member States to respect the principle of non-refoulement by opening their borders to refugees fleeing the crisis afflicting South Sudan; calls, similarly, for international commitment to end the supply of arms and military equipment to South Sudan and to end arms exports in the region;
