Council Regulations (EC) No 552/97 of 24 March 1997 temporarily withdrawing access to generalised tariff preferences from the Union of Myanmar , No 1933/2006 of 21 December 2006 temporarily withdrawing access to the generalised tariff preferences from the Republic of Belarus and Commission Regulations (EC) No 1100/2006 of 17 July 2006 laying down, for the marketing years 2006/2007, 2007/08 and 2008/2009, detailed rules for the opening and administration of tariff quotas for raw cane-sugar for refining, originating in least developed countries, as well as detailed rules applying to the importation of products under tariff heading 1701 originating in least developed countries and (EC) No 964/2007 of 14 August 2007 laying down detailed rules for the opening and administration of the tariff quotas for rice originating in the least developed countries for the marketing years 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 should therefore be amended accordingly.
Il convient donc de modifier en conséquence le règlement (CE) no 552/97 du Conseil du 24 mars 1997 retirant temporairement le bénéfice des préférences tarifaires généralisées à l’union de Myanmar , le règlement (CE) no 1933/2006 du Conseil du 21 décembre 2006 portant retrait temporaire de l’accès de la République du Belarus aux préférences tarifaires généralisées , le règlement (CE) no 1100/2006 de la Commission du 17 juillet 2006 fixant, pour les campagnes de commercialisation 2006/2007, 2007/2008 et 2008/2009, les modalités d’ouverture et de gestion des contingents tarifaires pour le sucre brut de canne destiné à être raffiné, originaire des pays les moins avancés, ainsi que les modalités d’importation des produits énumérés à la position tarifaire 1701 originaires des pays les moins avancés et le règlement (CE) no 964/2007 de la Commission du 14 août 2007 fixant les modalités d’ouverture et de gestion des contingents tarifaires applicables au riz originaire des pays les moins avancés, pour les campagnes de commercialisation 2007/2008 et 2008/2009

Article 1 of Council Regulation (EC) No 552/97 of 24 March 1997 temporarily withdrawing access to generalized tariff preferences from the Union of Myanmar , as amended by Article 28(1) of Council Regulation (EC) No 732/2008 of 22 July 2008 applying a scheme of generalised tariff preferences from 1 January 2009 , provides that Myanmar/Burma’s access to the tariff preferences granted by Regulation (EC) No 732/2008 is temporarily withdrawn.
Conformément à l’article 1er du règlement (CE) no 552/97 du Conseil du 24 mars 1997 retirant temporairement le bénéfice des préférences tarifaires généralisées à l’union de Myanmar , modifié par l’article 28, paragraphe 1, du règlement (CE) no 732/2008 du Conseil du 22 juillet 2008 appliquant un schéma de préférences tarifaires généralisées à partir du 1er janvier 2009 , le bénéfice des préférences tarifaires accordées au Myanmar/à la Birmanie en vertu du règlement (CE) no 732/2008 est retiré temporairement.

6. Calls on the Government of Burma/Myanmar to end discriminatory practices against the Rohingya; reiterates its earlier calls for amendment or repeal of the 1982 Citizenship Law to ensure that the Rohingya have equal access to Burmese citizenship;

Insists that the Rohingya minority cannot be left out of the newly developing openness for a multicultural Burma/Myanmar, and calls on the government to amend the 1982 citizenship law so as to bring it into line with international human rights standards and its obligations under Article 7 of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child, with a view to granting citizens’ rights to the Rohingya and other stateless minorities, as well as ensuring equal treatment for all Burmese citizens, thus ending discriminatory practices;

– having regard to the Council Decision of 16 August 2011 (2011/504/CFSP) amending Council Decision 2010/232/CFSP regarding restrictive measures against Burma/Myanmar,

encouraging a blanket prohibition in Council Regulation (EC) No 1853/2004 of 25 October 2004 concerning additional restrictive measures in respect of Burma/Myanmar and amending Regulation (EC) No 798/2004 on EU-registered companies making new investments or extending loans to all Burmese state-owned enterprises;

The Acceding Countries Bulgaria and Romania, the Candidate Country Croatia*, the Countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, declare that they share the objectives of Council Common Position 2005/340/CFSP of 25 April 2005 on extending restrictive measures against Burma/Myanmar and amending Common Position 2004/423/CFSP.
