It is important to note, however, that although IRPA theoretically creates four IRB divisions, only three of these divisions are currently operational: the Refugee Protection Division (RPD), the Immigration Division, and the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD).
Chaque section a son propre domaine de compétence, mais toutes les sections sont censées exercer des fonctions judiciaires ou comparables à celles d’un organisme d’appel en vertu de la LIPR. Il importe cependant de noter que bien que la LIPR crée en théorie quatre sections de la CISR, seulement trois fonctionnent à l’heure actuelle : la Section de la protection des réfugiés (SPR), la Section de l’immigration (SI) et la Section d’appel de l’immigration (SAI).
