Mr Belder asked about the remarks of our colleague and friend the Dutch Foreign Minister about the Palestinian Authority in particular and the importance of ensuring that it operates in a more transparent and democratic way. I have to say that what our colleague Mr van Aartsen said during his visit to the Middle East was not just wholly in line with our views on the development of democracy in the Palestinian territories, but an extremely eloquent and effective exposition of our view, as one would expect from him.
À la question de M. Belder à propos des commentaires de notre collègue et ami, le ministre néerlandais des Affaires étrangères, concernant l'Autorité palestinienne en particulier et l'importance pour celle-ci de fonctionner de manière plus transparente et plus démocratique, je répondrai ceci : les déclarations de notre collègue M. van Aartsen durant sa visite au Moyen-Orient sont non seulement totalement en phase avec notre vision du développement de la démocratie dans les territoires palestiniens mais expriment en plus notre position d'une façon extrêmement éloquente et adroite, comme on pouvait d'ailleurs s'y attendre de lui.
